Starting from October 1, the electricity market in Latvia is transitioning from 60-minute trading to 15-minute trading.

This means that data on electricity consumption and exchange prices will be available to consumers not every hour, but at 15-minute intervals. At the same time, the average hourly price will continue to be displayed, reports JSC Augstsprieguma tīkls.

The purpose of this change is being discussed by Latvians in discussions on the social network Facebook:

"The more expensive energy resources (electricity, fuel, gas) become, the higher prices will be in stores for goods and services, leading to more inflation. Apparently, a decision has been made to put the residents of Latvia on the brink of survival," believes Jānis.

"Another manipulation! Now to calculate kilowatt-hour (KW/h), you will have to multiply by 4! Many will have problems with this... And at the same time, many will have the illusion that electricity has become cheaper... But I repeat... This will be nothing more than an ILLUSION!" thinks Vlad.

"The end of savings for the residents of Latvia. Just look: on weekends I turn on the washing machine, knowing that it will run for one and a half to two hours for one wash. Now imagine that the tariff will change four times more often! Initially low, then higher after 15 minutes, then even higher, and it turns out that saving is impossible. The system is being created so that we pay the maximum. And this is despite the fact that Latvia has its own electricity production capacities and such a large river as the Daugava, which has three hydroelectric power stations. But all calculations go through the exchange, and the more often the exchange changes prices, the more we all pay for electricity. It turns out that with the permission of the authorities, we are being charged an additional tax; the more expensive electricity is, the more politicians can allocate money to their priorities," Anna expressed.

"Free choice for consumers is an illusion and a deception. The more people save, the higher the tariff will rise," believes Larisa.

"In Spain, the price changes several times during the day. And there is always a schedule. People have long gotten used to it. You decide when to turn on the washing machine or dishwasher. It's convenient. On weekends, there is mainly a cheap tariff all day," Marina reported.

"It's just a price increase for resources," Arnis is sure.

"What won't they come up with just to squeeze more money from consumers? And the bill looks frightening, with many lines, supposedly the electricity itself is cheap, but the connection and distribution costs are high + they also take tax - VAT from the total amount. In the end, it results in a substantial sum," Jeanne reflects.

"Stop thinking only about your wallet! Electricity may be expensive, but freedom is priceless!" believes Mudite.

"How tired they are with their murky schemes; this is already robbery of the people," Valery expressed.

"Why is such a huge interval needed? Prices should be changed at least every five minutes," laughs Inta.
