The summer holidays have just begun, and teenagers have already found a dangerous pastime. In Baloge, local residents filmed two boys who climbed a mobile communication tower.

Fortunately, it all ended without tragedy; however, specialists warn that such "feats" can cost lives, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).

In the published footage, two children can be seen climbing the LMT communication tower structure. One of the boys has already reached the top, while the other continued climbing behind him.

According to the video author, the teenagers reached the top, took photos, and soon began to descend. However, such entertainment is hard to call safe. The height of the tower exceeds 50 meters, and a fall from such a height leaves almost no chance of survival.

The Degpunktā film crew discovered that the base of the tower is hidden among trees and is practically not visible from the street. Therefore, passersby may not even notice that someone has climbed over the fence or entered the premises of the facility.

The company reported to the show that there are over 1,700 base stations operating throughout Latvia, located on towers, building roofs, and other structures. All of them are equipped with various security measures.

"Climbing a tower without the appropriate equipment is not an adventure or a harmless game, but a game with death. At the same time, it can also be an offense, which in relation to children and their parents can be considered damage to critical infrastructure," said Valdis Jālinkis, head of the public relations department at LMT.

He emphasized that it is impossible to provide round-the-clock physical security for every facility, so the vigilance of those around plays an important role.

"If you see children trying to access an infrastructure facility or damaging equipment, do not stand aside; try to stop them or, if necessary, call the police. Sometimes a timely call can prevent a tragedy," Jālinkis noted.

The company reported that they have already received information about damage to the fence around a specific tower and will address the issue.
