Considering the demand, additional first grades will be opened in two Riga municipal schools, the LETA agency was informed by the external communication department of the Riga City Council.
Additional first grades have been opened at Riga Secondary School No. 45 and the Oscar Kalpaks School of Applied Arts.
The municipality is monitoring the demand and will open more additional classes if school facilities allow, according to the municipality's statement.
The municipality reports that the process of enrolling first graders for the 2026/2027 academic year is ongoing. Schools are sending letters to parents to inform them about their child's inclusion or non-inclusion in the list of candidates for enrollment in the first grade of the school.
The municipality urges parents to keep in mind that the admission process is not yet complete, and changes will occur in the list of candidates throughout June.
Most children are registered at several schools, so after each response from parents, changes occur in the list of candidates, and the available spot is offered to the next child in line. Therefore, parents should regularly monitor the information they receive.
