Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, together with Ukraine, are working on an initiative that could push Russian President Vladimir Putin towards negotiations to end the war. According to Bloomberg, European capitals believe that more favorable conditions are developing for this than before.

The largest European allies of Ukraine are trying to give new momentum to diplomatic efforts to end the war. According to Bloomberg, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, together with Kyiv, are discussing a possible course of action that could create conditions for the start of real negotiations with Russia.

As agency sources note, European countries see signs that pressure on the Kremlin is gradually increasing. This is not only about the ongoing economic sanctions but also about the situation on the battlefield. Ukrainian drones are increasingly striking targets deep within Russian territory, and Russian troop losses continue to rise. According to European partners, this may increase Moscow's interest in seeking diplomatic solutions.

At the same time, the final decision on whether to move towards negotiations remains with Kyiv. Sources emphasize that European countries do not intend to impose any settlement scenario on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This means that any diplomatic initiatives will be developed in close coordination with the Ukrainian side.

In the coming days, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to discuss the situation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron.

At the same time, Ukraine continues to seek increased military support. Zelensky has repeatedly stated the need for additional Patriot air defense systems and other means of protection against Russian missile and drone attacks.

For Kyiv, the issue of negotiations remains closely linked to the military situation at the front and the level of support from allies. However, there is no consensus among Western politicians and experts regarding the prospects for such contacts.

Critics of the negotiation approach point out that Russia is not yet demonstrating a willingness to compromise and continues to put forward maximalist demands. In their opinion, allies should focus on further increasing pressure on the Kremlin and boosting arms supplies to Ukraine.

Nevertheless, European capitals believe that the current situation requires the search for additional diplomatic opportunities alongside the continued military support for Kyiv.

Whether the new initiative will be a real step towards negotiations or remain another attempt to find a path to settlement may become clear in the coming weeks.
