President of the Latvian Traders' Association Henrik Danusevich: "Those who buy fresh products will feel this!"

"People remember old prices, so it seems that they do not change or products become more expensive, but in reality, this is not the case," said Henrik Danusevich, president of the Latvian Traders' Association, in an interview with TV24, promising that soon residents will have the opportunity to buy products even cheaper.

"Currently, there are positive signals in food prices - almost all products, such as bread and flour, have fallen by 10%, milk by 15%, cheese by 20%, egg prices have dropped by 15%, while pork prices have only slightly decreased by 5%, but beef prices have dropped by 30-40%. The price of lamb has not decreased, but it is not very popular," Danusevich explained, continuing to list the grocery basket: "If we look at vegetables, the price of tomatoes has fallen by 20%, cabbage by 50%, only the price of potatoes has risen."

Danusevich also mentioned that the good news is that due to the reduction of VAT from July 1, several products will become cheaper, meaning this will affect chicken meat, bakery products, except for rolls, eggs, and a few other products. But, as Danusevich emphasizes: "Those who buy fresh products will feel this, while processed products will not be affected. For example, if a person buys fresh chicken, the VAT will be reduced, but if they buy chicken sausages or sausage, that product will not have the reduced VAT."
