Summer has finally arrived in Riga, and the best way to feel it is not by the calendar, but by visiting the Riga Central Market, where the abundance of colors and the intoxicating aroma of fresh berries attract buyers, writes Otkrito.lv.
Currently, the undisputed queen of the market is strawberries. As the local produce season is just gaining momentum, berries from Latvian fields are expensive - from 8 to 12 euros per kilogram. However, the situation is quite different on the shelves with imported products. The price of Greek strawberries has dropped in some places to 2 euros per kilogram, while larger and carefully selected berries are priced at 3 euros. For those looking for a "golden mean," traders offer Polish strawberries, as well as a very visually appealing variety called "Asia," which costs around 5.50 euros per kilogram.
On neighboring shelves, customers are tempted by dark blue and very large blueberries. Prices for berries grown in Spain and Morocco are quite affordable, ranging from 5 to 5.90 euros per kilogram. Cherry lovers have a truly wide selection. The cheapest Spanish cherries can be bought for as little as 2 euros per kilogram. Those who want to try cherries ripened under the sun of Greece, known for their particularly crunchy flesh, should expect to pay around 5.80 euros per kilogram.
