Shocked Buyers: Latvian Cheese is Made... in Ukraine 0

A resident of Riga was outraged by what he saw on the store shelf. The man wanted to buy cheese, approached the cheese stand to choose one made in Latvia, took a product with a Latvian flag on the packaging indicating the country of origin, but after reading the information about the manufacturer, he was confused — it turned out that Latvia only packages the product. So who produces 'Latvian' cheeses?

As it turns out, the cheese was produced in Ukraine.

Einars Odins comments:

“It's not even about where the product is made, but how difficult it is for our enterprises — how much bureaucracy, what tax burdens, for their products to reach the store. Therefore, the final price ends up being relatively high compared to imported goods and distributors!

Do our authorities not understand that a Latvian entrepreneur is the future of Latvia?!

People, support local producers!!!”

The author of the video, Arturs Klebahs, is also outraged specifically because of local producers: “How do you feel now, local producers, who meet all certification requirements and rules to have the right to place the Latvian flag on your products?”

Tanya Heyden: “Let’s ignore these mafia supermarkets, let’s support farmers!”

Edmund Virko: “I’m not surprised at all! And this is not news to me! I buy products from familiar farmers and advise everyone to do the same!”

Raivis Sveicers: “Look at the famous pickled cucumbers 'Muižkunga' in jars. Cucumbers — Turkey, lecho — Ukraine, and so on.”

However, it must be acknowledged that not everyone sees something wrong with this — for some, quality is the main thing.

Armands Kupche: “What matters is not what flag is on the packaging, but the quality! If the product is better than 'local', we buy it, eat it, and enjoy quality food!!”

Lana Skoda Singh: “I’m only interested in one thing — how does a person’s life, daily routine, or plans change when they find out where the product is made? If it tastes good, I absolutely don’t care where the product is from — even from hell itself. Why do people even read where it’s produced? How does that change your life? Unless you’re just looking for a reason to create a scandal.”

Liga Druka-Smalka: “So, is the cheese of poor quality? Who’s to blame that it’s cheaper for packagers to buy cheese in Ukraine than to produce it in Latvia?”

What is your opinion? Should a product made in another country have a Latvian flag on its packaging if it is only packaged in Latvia?
