The Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) identified violations in batches of energy drinks and snacks of Afghan origin during border control, according to information published by the service.
These products contained an undeclared food additive — sorbic acid, as well as other misleading information about the composition and nutritional value of the goods. In the energy drinks, there was also an excess of the permissible content of the food additive benzoic acid.
As explained by the service, a shipment of energy drinks weighing 19 tons and a batch of snacks weighing 748 kilograms were sent back to Afghanistan.
PVD also found in dill of Uzbek origin an excess of the permissible level of pesticide residues of propiconazole — 0.25 milligrams per kilogram with a maximum permissible level of 0.02 milligrams per kilogram.
The service reported that the batch of dill was sent to Moldova.
PVD published a notification about the identified violations in the European Union's rapid alert system.
PVD is a government agency under the Ministry of Agriculture of Latvia that carries out state supervision and control in the field of food and veterinary circulation.
