During border control, employees of the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service detained a shipment of artificial black and red caviar with cream.
As is known, imitation caviar is a food product that visually resembles natural fish roe but is made from alternative raw materials.
The product has firmly established itself on the shelves of stores in Latvia, but this imitation of black and red caviar with cream was produced in Ukraine with additives not permitted in EU countries.
Specifically, the product was not allowed into Latvia due to the presence of preservatives E 211 (sodium benzoate) and E 202 (potassium sorbate).
