The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Baiba Braže, received a call from the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Andrii Sybiha, who informed her about the drone attack on the oil depot in Rezekne.
It should be noted that earlier, on May 8, Sybiha had already called Riga. At that time, he said: “If it is confirmed that these were Ukrainian drones that were deliberately diverted from their course and directed towards Latvia by Russian electronic warfare means, we sincerely apologize to our Latvian friends.”
Two days passed, and the ministers spoke again:
“I just had another exchange of views with Baiba Braže about the recent drone incidents in Latvia.
Investigations proved that this was the result of targeted actions of Russian electronic warfare, when Ukrainian drones were intentionally diverted from their targets in Russia.
I confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to cooperate with the Baltic states and Finland to prevent similar incidents, including the direct involvement of our specialists.
Our goal is to ensure maximum security for Latvia, other Baltic states, and Finland. Firstly, by effectively countering Russian aggression and weakening Russia’s military machine. Secondly, by helping to strengthen the airspace defense of our friends,” Sybiha wrote on X. This post does not mention the promised apologies.
