Next week, there will be occasional rains in Latvia, and the air temperature will mostly be below +20 degrees, but it may become summery warm in the second half of May, meteorologists predict.
At the end of this week, rain is expected in Latgale and Selia, with many clouds across the country, while the sun will shine more often in Kurzeme. On Saturday, the speed of the northeast wind will reach 9-14 meters per second in gusts, the air will warm up to +10...+15 degrees, and in southern Latgale, the temperature will not exceed +8 degrees. On Sunday, the wind will weaken, and the air temperature will not change significantly.
On Monday night, under a clear sky, temperatures in some places will drop to one degree below zero, while during the day it will warm up to +14..+19 degrees.
The first day of the new week will mostly be dry, but later, rain is expected in many areas as cyclones will determine the weather. On the sunniest days in the second half of next week, air temperatures may reach +20 degrees.
According to the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, the average air temperature next week is expected to be close to normal, and in another week, it may rise three degrees above normal. The amount of precipitation is mainly forecasted to be higher than usual for May.
This week, on Monday, the air temperature in Daugavpils already reached +28 degrees, and on the nights of May 6 and 8, it dropped to two or three degrees below zero in some places, although cold records were not broken. The large temperature fluctuations are partially explained by the drought.
The Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology warns that until the beginning of next week, there will be a high fire hazard in forests in many places across the country.
