Overpaid taxes will only be refunded in 83 years? The Latvian government does not value the parents of young hockey players

The ceiling for justified expenses that residents of Latvia can reclaim once a year from the taxes paid to the state has not changed since 2017, when it was raised twofold - to 600 euros. According to the State Revenue Service, the amount exceeding 600 euros is automatically carried over to the next year.

In this case, I ask for clarification of the specific situation. My son is a minor — accordingly, he is under my care. He plays hockey. I pay for his training 350 euros a month; that amounts to about 4,200 euros a year. So, as justified expenses, I will get a tax refund on the first 600 euros, and the remaining amount will be distributed over the next seven years – from 2027 to 2033?

But next year I will pay another 4,200 euros – hockey is not getting cheaper. Does that mean the state will owe to refund the tax overpayment until 2040?

According to my calculations, in total over twelve years, about 50,000 euros will be spent on hockey training. So, will I have to apply for a tax refund for 83 years – until 2109?

I am an optimist — but not so much as to expect to live until that time. Will my great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren of a father who decided to teach hockey to his son in modern Latvia be able to apply for a tax refund instead of him? A reader of the bb.lv portal.
