Over the past day, 53 dry grass fires have been extinguished, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported to the LETA agency.
The largest of them was registered in the Ledurga parish of the Sigulda region, where dry grass burned over an area of 6 hectares.
Calls also came from the Aizpute parish of the South Kurzeme region, the Krustpils parish of the Jekabpils region, and the Jaunsvirlauka parish of the Jelgava region - in all these places, fire covered an area of 4 hectares. In the Ambeļi parish of the Augšdaugava region, grass burned over an area of 3 hectares, while in the Anneneik parish of the Dobele region and the Smiltene parish of the Smiltene region, it was 2 hectares.
The service reminds that burning dry grass is prohibited and dangerous, as it threatens property, health, and lives of people, and also causes significant harm to nature. Residents are urged to tidy up their territories without setting last year's grass on fire, and in case of a fire, to call 112.
Additionally, at 4:02, a call was received in Staicele, Limbaži region, where a plastic bucket with ash caught fire in a one-story residential house, as well as the floor over an area of 1 square meter. Before the rescuers arrived, one person was evacuated from the house, who was injured and handed over to the Emergency Medical Service. Work at the scene was completed at 5:40.
At 4:36, a call was received in the Popes parish of the Ventspils region about a fire in a one-story residential house covering an area of 120 square meters. Before the firefighters arrived, three people evacuated from the house, two of whom were injured and handed over to medics. The fire was extinguished at 7:54.
In total, over the past day, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received 93 calls: 66 for fire extinguishing (of which 53 were dry grass fires and two were forest fires), 11 for rescue operations, and another 16 calls turned out to be false.
