Representatives of Youth in Latvia Discuss When They Would Like to Retire

Latvian youth do not want to work until the established retirement age in the country - one in four would like to retire before the age of 50.

This desire is particularly pronounced among young people (18-29 years old): 25% would like to retire before the age of 50, while 26% would prefer to retire between the ages of 50 and 55. Only 9% of Latvia's residents would be willing to continue working until retirement age, even if they had the option to retire earlier, according to a public opinion survey.

If financial circumstances allowed, about 20% of Latvia's residents would like to retire between the ages of 51 and 55, and 28% would prefer to retire between 56 and 60. Additionally, 11% would like to end their working life before reaching 50. The data also shows that men are generally willing to work a little longer than women. For example, 63% of women and 54% of men would like to retire before the age of 60. The remaining men are willing to work longer.

The desire to work less than mandated by the state is especially pronounced among the youth: among respondents aged 18-29, more than half (51%) would not want to work beyond the age of 55, while among residents aged 30-39, this figure is 42%.

Only 7% of those in their twenties would be willing to retire at the state-mandated age, while among those in their thirties, this number is halved (4%).

Well, if people are planning to work at all, that's already a good thing!
