Residents of Latvia are in for truly summer weekends: already on Saturday, temperatures will rise to +27 degrees in some places. However, the forecast for the festive days of Ligo remains uncertain — after the warming, a cooling and the arrival of rain is possible.
After a cool start to June, warm summer weather is returning to Latvia. According to meteorologists' forecasts, the air temperature will gradually rise in the coming days and will reach its highest values in recent times by the weekend.
On Thursday, the temperature will warm up to +22 degrees in some places, and on Friday — to +24. Significant precipitation is not expected: the weather will be mostly dry, with variable cloudiness and only brief showers in certain areas.
True summer warmth will arrive on Saturday. Meteorologists predict sunny and mostly dry weather, with air temperatures ranging from +22 to +27 degrees.
For many, this will be a good opportunity to finish preparations for outdoor celebrations, as the weather situation may change later.
On Sunday, warm and somewhat muggy weather will persist. Thunderstorms are possible in many areas, which may bring brief but intense precipitation.
On the same day, at 11:24, the summer solstice will occur. June 21 will be the longest day of the year, and the night from Saturday to Sunday will be the shortest.
Good news for those who enjoy celebrating the solstice outdoors — the night is expected to be warm and mostly dry. The air temperature will range from +13 to +18 degrees.
According to current forecasts, no significant precipitation is expected on Monday, June 22. The weather will remain sunny, although the temperature will be a few degrees lower than during the weekend.
However, the forecast for Ligo and Jāņi Day remains uncertain. Meteorologists consider two scenarios for the developments.
According to one of them, a cyclone may approach Latvia, bringing cloudiness and rain. In the other scenario, precipitation will be brief and local, while air temperatures in many areas will remain above +20 degrees.
That is why the final forecast for the holiday weekend will only become more accurate a few days before Ligo.
For now, the most reliable part of the forecast remains the warm and mostly sunny weather in the coming days, which will allow the residents of Latvia to feel the true beginning of summer.
