At the end of February this year, there were 41,825 people with low-income status in Latvia, which is 1.6% more than at the end of January, according to data from the Ministry of Welfare, LETA reports.
At the end of February, there were 16,830 people with low-income status in the country, which is 4.3% more than at the end of January.
The income threshold for recognizing a household as low-income is set at 50% of the median income. In 2026, this threshold for the first or only person in the household is 425 euros, and for other household members, it is 298 euros.
In turn, each municipality has the right to set the income threshold for recognizing a household as low-income at no more than 80% of the median income, but not lower than the threshold for low-income households.
The maximum income threshold for a low-income household in 2026 for the first or only person is 680 euros, and for other household members, it is 476 euros.
