Mid-March was five degrees warmer than normal

The average air temperature in the second decade of March in Latvia reached +5.3 degrees, which is 5.1 degrees above normal, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), reports LETA.

Since February 27, a heatwave has been ongoing in Latvia, during which 124 temperature records have been broken.

The highest air temperature in mid-March reached +17.1 degrees on the 14th in Liepaja and Pavilosta, while the lowest — down to -6 degrees — was recorded on March 19 in Madona.

The average precipitation across the country in the second decade of the month was 4.7 millimeters, or 37% of the norm. The most precipitation — 12.5 millimeters — fell in Ainazi, while the least — only two millimeters — was registered in Jekabpils.

The average relative humidity in mid-March was 77% — ranging from 67% in Jekabpils and Rezekne to 86% in Pavilosta and Ventspils.

The strongest wind gusts — 19.8 meters per second — were recorded on March 13 in Pavilosta.
