On a working morning, residents of the apartment building on Sergei Eisenstein Street were surprised by the scene outside their window — the municipal police fined drivers for parking in a place where it had always been allowed before.

A "hello" from the municipal police was received by at least fifteen of Edgar's neighbors, reports the Bez Tabu program (TV3). The most surprising was the police's explanation that this inconspicuous, pothole-covered section can now be considered a sidewalk.

An examination of historical documentation revealed that during the Soviet era, this section was indeed used as a sidewalk. The police arrived on Sergei Eisenstein Street at the initiative of the residents themselves — law enforcement received reports of improper parking of vehicles.

Now, residents must agree on a further decision — to maintain the possibility of parking in this location or to prohibit it, and the Riga City Council must be notified of the decision made.

A road safety expert believes that it is the municipality's task to tidy up the area so that residents do not have to guess whether they are parking on the sidewalk or on the road.
