This week, SIA "Rīgas ūdens" will begin flushing the capital's water supply networks, the LETA agency was informed by the company's communication department.

The first works are scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, on Brivibas Gatve; additionally, this month flushing is also planned in the neighborhoods of Teika, Grizinkalns, and Avoti. In April, the work will continue in Chiekurkalns and Brasa.

Subsequently, flushing will take place in Milgravis, Mezaparks, Purvciems, Darzciems, Skansete, and Andrejsala.

A total of 360 kilometers of water supply networks are planned to be flushed in 2026, starting with the main pipelines.

From March 17 to 19, a main water pipeline of 4.4 km will be flushed on the section of Brivibas Gatve from Jutas Street to the Jugla Canal. During the work, water supply may be temporarily interrupted at Brivibas Gatve, 413, 415, 417, 417A, and 427.

During the flushing in Chiekurkalns, there may be turbidity in the tap water. After the work is completed in Teika and Chiekurkalns, the water may be saturated with air, causing it to appear pale white, but it remains safe for use and poses no health threat.

The goal of preventive flushing of water supply systems is to maintain high-quality drinking water and ensure stable water supply by preventing the accumulation of sediment in the system. Flushing removes accumulated particles from the pipes, such as iron and minerals, which helps reduce water turbidity, improve its color, and taste.

"Rīgas ūdens" provides municipal water supply services in Riga and several adjacent areas - Adazi, Ropaži, Marupe, and Kekava municipalities, as well as wastewater collection and treatment services. The sole owner of the company is the Riga City Council.
