The Jūrmala municipality, investing 2,539,961 euros, will improve micromobility infrastructure in Priežaine — this decision was supported on Thursday at the council meeting.
The deputies decided to support the municipality's participation in the competition under the European Union's cohesion policy in order to apply for funding for a project aimed at improving the accessibility of the Priežaine railway station. The plan includes upgrading the cycling infrastructure and parking in close proximity to the station, as well as promoting the development of sustainable multimodal mobility.
It is worth noting that last year, Jūrmala increased the entry fee to the city to 5 euros. Under these conditions, it would be convenient for many to leave their cars in a parking lot (if it is free) and continue their journey by bicycle or train.
The municipality hopes that as a result of the project implementation, the accessibility of the station and the surrounding area for micromobility users will improve, road safety will increase, and the quality of the urban environment for residents and visitors will enhance. It will also encourage more active use of public transport and create an attractive urban environment through the construction of a well-equipped bike path.
The project is planned to be implemented from June 2026 to December 2029.
The total estimated cost of the project is 2,539,961 euros, of which 2,503,259 euros are eligible for co-financing expenses, including funding from the European Regional Development Fund in the amount of 1,000,000 euros and co-financing from the municipality in the amount of 1,503,259 euros. Non-eligible co-financing expenses amount to 36,702 euros.
