Even in summer, citizens of Latvia are actively engaged in lawmaking.
The platform for public initiatives - manabalss.lv - continues to be very active even during the summer vacation period! Recently, a petition was launched to revive the Riga 1st Hospital as a round-the-clock emergency medical care facility. In less than a week, more than 1,100 citizens of Latvia have signed this proposal. Let us remind you: in order for the initiative to be submitted to the Saeima, it must collect at least 10,000 citizens of Latvia who have the right to vote.
Soon, the coveted milestone of 10,000 signatures will be surpassed by the proposal to increase benefits for people with severe disabilities - it is proposed to set the benefit at the level of the minimum wage.
More than 8,000 signatures have already been collected under the initiative for the state to pay for the most modern and effective medications to improve the health of seriously ill patients, including those with cancer.
Although the parliament rejected the initiative on the right to choose savings in the 2nd pension age, the collection of signatures in support of this initiative continues, and 26,330 signatures have already been gathered!
The public actively supports the somewhat controversial initiative "on controlling the bear population." In fact, it concerns granting hunters the right to exterminate a certain number of bears. This proposal has been signed by 5,451 citizens.
