"My neighbor is a lonely pensioner, disabled (with mental health issues, but not aggressive). She has been treated multiple times in a psychiatric hospital. Until recently, I was caring for her just as a neighbor — paying her bills, bringing groceries, keeping things in order, etc. But lately, I have been having health problems myself and can only move with difficulty around the apartment.
Both of us need home care, but we cannot come to the social service ourselves, and we have no relatives or acquaintances who could do this for us or on our behalf — we are both alone.
Can we seek help remotely? And how can this be done? Are there services that help people specifically with mental health issues?"
Antra Gabre, project coordinator of the external communication department of the Riga municipality:
– If a person cannot personally visit the Riga social service for any objective reasons, they should call 67105048 or 1201 and inform them of their situation.
The information will be forwarded to the appropriate staff member, who will contact the person and, if necessary, visit them at their place of residence. The staff member will assess what specific assistance is needed on-site and will arrange how and to what extent this assistance will be provided.
