The minister calls for an urgent meeting of the crisis center to address support for households.
Given the low air temperature this winter and the significant increase in heating costs for households, Minister of Economy Viktor Valainis (SCP) proposes to urgently convene an extraordinary meeting of the State Energy Crisis Center to find effective solutions to support residents, the Ministry of Economy informed the LETA agency.
The minister instructed the Ministry of Economy to contact the State Energy Crisis Center to convene an extraordinary meeting as soon as possible.
Valainis emphasizes that, according to JSC "Rigas Siltums", this January in Latvia was the coldest in the last 15 years and the second coldest in the last 30 years since the company's inception. This directly affected the consumption of thermal energy and will lead to significantly higher heating bills for households.
In Valainis's opinion, coordinated actions at the state level are necessary under such conditions, which would be ensured by convening an extraordinary meeting of the State Energy Crisis Center.
The rapidly increasing payments raise serious concerns about residents' ability to pay for utilities during these winter months, Valainis believes.
In his view, the format of the extraordinary meeting of the State Energy Crisis Center is appropriate not only to promptly assess the situation but also to simultaneously make decisions on support measures to reduce the burden of high bills for households.
