During the holiday season, the Riga Municipality Police will operate in enhanced mode to ensure public order and prevent violations, including monitoring compliance with the rules regarding the use of pyrotechnics, the Riga City Council informed the LETA agency.
The police note that, whenever possible, violations of the rules regarding the use of pyrotechnics will be prevented. In other cases, officers will try to identify the violators on the spot, and if this proves impossible, the fact of the violation will be recorded and punishment will be applied later.
As reported, the Riga City Council has adopted new mandatory rules prohibiting pyrotechnics at night in the city.
To avoid disturbing the night peace of residents, the new rules stipulate a ban on the use of pyrotechnics from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM from June 1 to August 31, and from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM from September 1 to May 31. The ban on the use of pyrotechnics does not apply to public events that have been approved by the capital's municipality, as well as on New Year's Eve from 12:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
For violations of the rules, an administrative fine of up to 350 euros for individuals and up to 1400 euros for legal entities is provided.
