Last week, the activity of influenza and other acute respiratory infections in Latvia remained low, although the incidence rates slightly increased compared to the previous week, according to data from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Clinically, influenza was identified in 20 patients. The average incidence rate was 28.8 cases per 100,000 residents, which is approximately four times higher than the previous week, when 5.9 cases per 100,000 residents were reported.
Influenza cases were registered in Rezekne, Jelgava, Riga, and Daugavpils.
Ten cases of illness were registered in the age group of 5 to 14 years, eight among people aged 15 to 64 years, and another two in patients over 65 years old.
Since the beginning of the season, there have been no reports of deaths among patients with confirmed or suspected influenza.
With other acute upper respiratory infections, 830 patients visited family doctors in the past week, which amounts to 1,195 cases per 100,000 residents - an 11% increase compared to the previous week.
There were 27 patients hospitalized with pneumonia, which is 20% more than the previous week when 22 patients were receiving treatment.
A total of 126 patients were treated in hospitals for severe acute respiratory infections, accounting for 2.8% of all hospitalized cases. Of these, eight individuals, or 6.3%, were in intensive care units.
The proportion of positive Covid-19 tests increased from 8.2% to 10.8%. Last week, 26 new patients with coronavirus were admitted to hospitals, and a total of 66 people were treated in inpatient care for Covid-19, of which it was the primary reason for hospitalization in 34 patients (51.5%).
Five deaths among patients with confirmed Covid-19 infection were also registered.
According to estimates from the CDC, the overall prevalence of influenza, other acute respiratory infections, and pneumonia this fall is lower than in the previous season.
