Maybe the majority of the population are not Kremlin agents after all? Hermanis on the Istanbul Convention

Director and recently a politician Alvis Hermanis poses questions to the organizers and participants of actions against Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention (SK) on his social media:

"SK. Before rushing into a fight and taking one side or the other, there are many questions that I myself seek answers to and urge others to consider:

Why are the organizations that speak most actively about protecting women exactly the same ones that advocate most vigorously for immigration (which is precisely the greatest potential threat to the safety of my three daughters in the future)?

Why have our ruling politicians long failed to adapt Latvian laws, police, and courts to protect women without signing various conventions, and why is no one organizing demonstrations in Dome Square about this?

Why is the SK the most important project for this Saeima and this president during their four years in power? Why not the catastrophe of state governance in Latvia, symbolized by the piles of Rail Baltica and other failed projects, against which no one protests in Dome Square either?

If I were to draw a rainbow on stage in a theater, it would inevitably symbolize something else, but no longer a rainbow. That’s how symbols work. The same goes for SK. It’s no longer about what is written there, but what it symbolizes.

Does defending the SK really mean defending the fight against violence? Maybe this time SK means defending the ideology of leftist wokists and the progressive party? And not the interests of women or Latvia?

Maybe the majority of Latvia’s residents are not Kremlin agents after all? And not palliative patients with dementia, as they were referred to yesterday – we heard that.

Maybe local media are not telling us everything? If so, what could be the reason?

Maybe, quoting Vaira, we need to start thinking with our heads?

I’m just asking. It’s okay to ask, right?"
