As of today, October 31, the speed limit on the Southern Bridge has been reduced from 70 to 50 kilometers per hour until spring next year, the Riga City Council's Department of External Communications reported to LETA.
The reduction of the permitted speed on the Southern Bridge is an annual event aimed at increasing traffic safety on the bridge's overpasses during the winter period.
The speed limit will be reduced on the section from the exit from Latgales Street to Lubanas Street and on the opposite side of the bridge's roadway — from Lubanas Street to the exit from Piedrujas Street. The speed limit will be in effect until spring next year, which the municipality will announce shortly before its cancellation.
The replacement of road signs is planned for Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The municipality urges drivers to be vigilant and to pay attention to changes in traffic organization.
