Latvian émigré singer Ilmars Dzenis has passed away, reports the Latvian Society of St. Petersburg (Florida, USA) on its Facebook page.
Dzenis passed away at the age of 93.
As noted by the Latvian Society of St. Petersburg, Ilmars Dzenis was born on December 5, 1931, in Daugavpils and spent his childhood in Jelgava.
At the end of World War II, he fled to Nazi Germany with his mother, and after its defeat, moved to the United States.
In the U.S., he became one of the members of the legendary group “Čikāgas piecīši” (Chicago Five).
He later began a solo career and created such well-known songs among the Latvian emigrant community as “Zilās acis” (Blue Eyes), “Cik dzīvē viss skaists” (How Beautiful Life Is), and “Lai dzīvo trešā jaunība” (Long Live the Third Youth).
