Last week, the spread of influenza and other acute respiratory infections remained at a low level, but five deaths among patients with confirmed "Covid-19" were reported, according to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Influenza was clinically confirmed in three patients, which is less than the previous week when there were 9.9 cases per 100,000 population.
Influenza cases last week were registered in the age group from 15 to 64 years - two cases in Jelgava and one in Riga.
Since the beginning of the season, a total of 10 cases of influenza have been registered. Last week, there were no reports of deaths among patients with confirmed influenza or suspected cases.
Last week, the proportion of positive influenza tests in inpatient facilities slightly increased. In hospitals, 214 patients were tested for influenza last week, with four cases returning positive results, including three patients identified with influenza type A and one with influenza type B.
In turn, the proportion of positive samples in tests for the "Covid-19" infection decreased last week compared to the previous week. A total of 329 patients were tested, of which 11, or 3.3%, were confirmed to have "Covid-19". For comparison, the virus was confirmed in 7.7% of cases the week before.
At the same time, last week, 36 new patients with "Covid-19" were admitted to hospitals, which is the same number as the previous week. A total of 77 patients with "Covid-19" infection were treated in hospitals, of which 37 had a primary diagnosis of "Covid-19", accounting for 48.1% of patients.
The proportion of laboratory-confirmed samples of the "SARS-CoV-2" virus decreased last week compared to the previous week from 11.4% to 8.3%.
With other acute respiratory infections, 970 patients visited family doctors last week, averaging 1,366 cases per 100,000 residents, which is slightly more than the previous week.
The proportion of patients with respiratory infections is 20% of the total number of visits to family doctors.
With signs of pneumonia, 34 patients visited doctors last week, which corresponds to the level of the previous week.
In addition, last week, 143 patients with severe acute respiratory infections were hospitalized. Of these, seven patients were placed in intensive care units.
The proportion of positive samples for respiratory syncytial virus also increased. Last week, 57 patients were tested for this infection, which was confirmed in four cases.
From October 6 to 12, slightly fewer schoolchildren attended schools than the previous week - an average of 91.9%. The lowest attendance rate was recorded in Riga - 89.2%.
During this period, preschool institutions had approximately the same number of children attending as the previous week - an average of 70.6%. The lowest attendance rate was recorded in the Jekabpils region - 59.2%.
