The project is being developed for Universal Studios, with Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians serving as producers through The Lego Group. Details about the film's plot are currently unknown, but it is reported that the film will be a hybrid of live-action and animation.
According to sources from Deadline close to the project, after several attempts to launch a Lego project with different writers and directors, Universal Studios "decided to try its luck with a major star — Reeves," specifically developing the project around an unspecified character for the actor.
Keanu Reeves has previously collaborated with Josh Cooley, voicing the character of stuntman Duke Caboom in his film Toy Story 4. The film grossed over $1 billion at the global box office and was nominated for an Oscar.
