The average cost for a foreigner is 6,500 dollars.

Korea is an ideal country for medical tourism. The homeland of K-pop has become one of the most sought-after destinations for diagnosis and treatment. In 2025, the republic welcomed 1.6 million such tourists.

Which Medical Services to Choose?

Korea has utilized the latest information technologies in medicine for some time, but in recent years, the application of artificial intelligence has been added to this. Traditionally strong areas remain oncology, plastic surgery, dermatology, orthopedics, and dentistry.

Among the key areas, check-ups lead the way – a comprehensive examination of the body. The process is organized so that a person can undergo a full examination and receive preliminary results within 4–6 hours. This means that the day after arrival, the patient goes to the clinic in the morning, and if there are no serious pathologies, they leave in the afternoon with ready results or receive them within a few days. The process is so streamlined that you won’t see any queues.

What Should Foreign Tourists Do If Something Goes Wrong?

Situations can vary. Anyone may have concerns that in the event of an unfavorable result, no one will help them in a foreign country. In Korea, this aspect is clearly regulated by the government. Since 2016, all institutions working with foreigners are required to arrange insurance contributions in case of medical errors. Additionally, the Korean Accreditation and Evaluation System for Medical Institutions (KAHF) is in place. The areas of responsibility and compensation mechanisms are legislatively defined, so in case of issues, foreign patients can expect to receive compensation in accordance with established procedures.

What’s the Cost?

The average cost of treatment for a foreign citizen is estimated at 9,720,000 Korean won (approximately 6,500 USD). The average duration of such treatment is 7.2 days, and the level of satisfaction with the services reaches 92.8%. A basic check-up will cost from 500 USD, a premium check-up program from 2,000 USD, and specialized examinations (oncology check-up, cardiology, endocrinology, etc.) from 700 to 2,000 USD.

What Else Should You Know?

Keep in mind that a monetary percentage may be withheld for not showing up on the scheduled day at the clinic. In any case, think ahead about what you will do if your flight is delayed or canceled, and discuss this with a representative from the Korean side. It may make sense to plan your visit to the doctors with a significant time buffer.
