34-year-old Marie-Louise Eta has made a true breakthrough by becoming the first female head coach of a men's football club in one of Europe's top leagues. This appointment has already been recorded in the history of world sports.
Historic Appointment
For the first time in the history of European football, 34-year-old Marie-Louise Eta has taken the position of head coach of a men's team competing in one of the continent's top leagues! She has been entrusted with managing the Berlin club Union. This appointment is temporary – until the end of the current season, after which Eta will move to the women's team of the same club.

Brilliant Player Career
Before becoming a coach, Marie-Louise shone on the football fields as a professional athlete. Her career included playing for well-known clubs such as Turbine, Hamburg, and Werder, as well as participating in the youth national team of Germany. Over the years of her playing career, Eta amassed an impressive collection of trophies: she became a champion of the Bundesliga and the Champions League, as well as winning gold medals at the European and World Championships at the youth level. Unfortunately, at the age of 26, Marie-Louise had to end her professional career due to serious injuries.
New Challenge for Union
Previously, Marie-Louise had already made a name for herself by managing the youth section of Union, and now she is set to lead the main team, replacing 54-year-old Stefan Baumgartner in this position. Eta faces an extremely ambitious and challenging goal – to lead Union to the Bundesliga. Here’s how Eta herself commented on her appointment: "Given our position in the lower half of the table, our place in the Bundesliga is not yet guaranteed. I am glad that the club has entrusted me with this challenging task."
Significance for World Sport
It is worth emphasizing that this is truly a historic event: a woman occupies the position of head coach of a men's football team in the top divisions of Europe for the first time! Even in lower leagues, female coaches are a rarity. One of the bright examples of such a breakthrough is Sabrina Wittmann, who successfully leads the Bavarian club Ingolstadt.
