The famous filmmaker has dreamed of participating in the Bond franchise since the days of 'Dr. No.'
The prolonged pause before the start of work on the next James Bond film has not diminished public interest in the franchise at all. Any news or gossip related to it is inevitably circulated in the media and becomes a topic of discussion.
Recently, Steven Spielberg's (79) revelations about an unfulfilled 'romance' with Agent 007 sparked lively interest. It turns out that the famous filmmaker has dreamed of participating in the Bond franchise since the days of 'Dr. No.' In any case, as soon as fame hit Spielberg after the release of 'Jaws,' he reached out to producer Albert Broccoli: 'If you need a director, I would love to take this on.' To which Broccoli replied briefly: 'No.'
A few years later, Broccoli himself approached Steven, but not with a job offer, rather with a request. It turns out he wanted to use the famous musical theme from 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' for his film 'Moonraker.' But Spielberg thought it over and posed a deal: he would allow the use of the melody in exchange for the director's chair in the new Bond film. However, Broccoli refused again. Generous Steven, nevertheless, relinquished the rights to the music for free, never learning the reasons for yet another failure.
But every cloud has a silver lining. When Spielberg shared his misfortune with George Lucas, Lucas assured him that he had something better than some Bond and shared the concept of a project under the working title 'Indiana Jones,' and Spielberg ultimately became the author of the iconic series.
Now, with three Oscars to his name, he has changed his attitude towards the super-agent franchise: 'If I were asked to make a film about 007 now, my answer would be: 'You can't afford me.'
