The liberation of Crimea involves several stages, but the start of a ground operation on the peninsula can be discussed in about a year to a year and a half. This was stated by military expert, retired Colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Roman Svitan on the air of "24 Channel."
"This (the massive drone attack on Crimea) is the beginning of the third period of the liberation of Crimea. The first is the suppression of Russian air defense, gaining air superiority. The second period is cutting off Russian logistics to Crimea and back, meaning transitioning to a full operational encirclement. The third period is the destruction of military facilities of various levels directly in Crimea," he said.
Moreover, according to the expert, this includes dual-use facilities: thermal power plants, oil loading and pumping mechanisms of various levels, which are involved in logistics, energy supply for the railway, oil depots that provide diesel, and locomotives that transport a sufficient amount of military ammunition by rail.
Furthermore, Svitan believes that "everything will depend on the intensity of strikes, on the number of means of destruction that we have."
"Not only unmanned systems will be involved, but most likely air forces will be engaged using cruise missiles, as well as naval forces with 'Neptunes.' That is, we have a wide range of missiles... We are waiting for ballistic missiles; the missile troops should also please us with ballistics. I think it should appear at least in some foreseeable future. And then we can talk about the completion of the third stage. This is practically a preliminary stage before the liberation of Crimea, a ground operation that is unlikely to take place this year," the expert noted.
In his opinion, this mode of operation in Crimea should last for about a year to a year and a half, that is, until the next summer-spring campaign.
"So, the liberation of Crimea is ahead. Not tomorrow, not the day after tomorrow. This is not 2022... Now it is only possible through serious strikes on Russian military facilities, pushing them out of this territory. And in about a year, we can start carrying out a ground operation to liberate Crimea, which will last until the collapse of the Russian Empire, because without the collapse of the Russian Empire, it is practically unrealistic to ensure safety and peace on our land," the expert concluded.
