Spring in Italy: Why It’s the Best Time to Travel and What to See

Spring in Italy arrives significantly earlier than in Latvia. By the end of April to early May, the air warms up to +25…+27 degrees, fruit trees bloom everywhere, and the streets are filled with aromas and colors. It is the perfect season for travel: the mild weather allows you to leisurely enjoy the architecture, walks, and atmosphere of the country.

One of the most beautiful cities in Italy is rightly considered Florence — and it is in spring that it reveals its full charm. The orange trees, which are especially abundant on the Apennine Peninsula, fill the air with a delicate fragrance. Residents decorate the streets with flower pots, and the city literally turns into a blooming garden.

Strolling through the narrow streets of Florence at this time of year is a true pleasure. The spring sun is gentle and not exhausting, allowing you to explore the city for hours. In summer, however, the heat becomes so intense that the stone walls and pavements heat up significantly, turning sightseeing into a trial.

Verona is equally attractive in spring — a small city famous for the story of Romeo and Juliet. During this period, it becomes a true pilgrimage site for lovers from all over the world. The house with Juliet's legendary balcony is easy to find — any local resident can show it to you. Here, tourists leave notes with wishes: to meet love or strengthen relationships. The messages are collected by museum staff, and the most touching ones become part of the exhibition. According to local beliefs, many of these wishes actually come true.

Italian villas, once owned by noble dynasties, also create a special atmosphere. In spring, they look particularly striking: the fresh greenery highlights the nobility of the marble and the elegance of the architecture. Among the most popular are the Pitti Palace in Florence, the former residence of the Medici, and the 16th-century Villa d’Este near Rome. They are easily accessible both independently and through guided tours.

Italy is beautiful at any time of the year, but it is in spring that it offers unique experiences. Only in this season can you feel the fragrance of blooming orange trees, see the riot of hydrangeas, enjoy the gentle sun, and truly experience the vibrant, joyful atmosphere of the country.
