The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, stated that the Russian drone that hit the apartment building in the Romanian city of Galați was shot down by Ukrainian air defense, resulting in a change of trajectory. The statement from the Romanian president was reported by Digi24.
As Dan noted, the Russian drone that hit the residential building changed its flight trajectory after apparently being shot down over the Ukrainian city of Reni.
"When they (the drones – Ed.) flew over the territory of Ukraine, some of them were shot down, and one of them, likely shot down over the city of Reni, changed its trajectory and headed towards Galați," Dan said.
The President noted that Romania will continue negotiations with allies to strengthen defense capabilities against drones.
"At the next NATO meeting, the issue of the equipment needed by Romania will be discussed. Russia is undoubtedly responsible for this situation. This is a long process that Romania is undertaking to continue to protect itself," Dan stated.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the incident a "serious and irresponsible escalation" on the part of Russia and summoned the Russian ambassador.
As reported by bb.lv, today in the border Romanian city of Galați, a drone crashed into a residential apartment building, causing a fire. Two people were injured.
