Three climbers from Latvia died while falling from the highest mountain in North America, Denali (McKinley), the Latvian Climbing Union reported.

The union reports that climbers Inese Puceka, Viya Olte, and Renars Kunigs-Salaks have died.

As a result of the accident, Martiņš Bilzens was also injured and was evacuated in critical condition and handed over to the care of American medics. The other members of the expedition, Valdis Purinš, Edgars Madžulis, and Guntis Svarinš, remained in the camp after the accident to begin a safe descent with the help of rescuers.

The accident occurred on the climbing route between the upper intermediate camp of the mountain ('High Camp') and Denali Pass, at an altitude of approximately 18,200 feet, or about 5,545 meters.

As is known, Denali (officially called McKinley until 2015 and again from 2025) is the highest mountain peak in North America (6,190 m). It is located in the very center of Alaska (USA) in the national park of the same name. In the language of the local Athabascan Indians, Denali means 'The Great' or 'The High.'
