Meal timing is directly related to slowing down age-related changes.

Scientists have found that dietary patterns can play a key role in slowing down age-related changes. It turns out that not only the composition of food but also the timing of meals is directly related to the likelihood of 'healthy aging' — without chronic diseases, cognitive impairments, and depression. The study was published in Nutrition Journal (NJ).

The research involved more than 900 people over the age of 60. The analysis showed that the best health outcomes were observed in those who maintained a nighttime fasting period of about 13–14 hours. This means that there was enough time between dinner and breakfast for the body to recover.

Moreover, the timing of the meals themselves was also important. The highest chances of good health were seen in those who had breakfast between 6 and 7 a.m. and dinner between 5 and 6 p.m. Earlier or later meal times were associated with worse outcomes.

Scientists explain this by the influence on circadian rhythms — the internal biological clocks that regulate metabolism, brain function, and inflammation levels. They say that maintaining a stable eating schedule could be a simple and accessible way to support health and slow down aging, although further research is needed for definitive conclusions.
