In the United States, an elderly fisherman caught a huge yellow perch weighing 1.35 kilograms during ice fishing, breaking the 44-year-old record in North Dakota. This was reported by Outdoor Life.

Brothers Alan and Dale Hintz from Wisconsin went fishing in North Dakota accompanied by guide Tyler Elshaug on March 3. The group had no luck in the morning, and Elshaug decided to move them to another spot. He drilled holes in the ice, and almost immediately, Dale caught a large fish that bit off the lure. While he and the guide were changing tackle, Alan caught something really big.

The man thought it was a pike, but when he pulled the fish onto the ice, it turned out to be a large yellow perch. "Our jaws just dropped," Alan recalled. They immediately went to the nearest store to weigh the fish on certified scales. It turned out that the catch weighed 1.35 kilograms.

The previous North Dakota record for catching this species was set back in 1982 and was 975 grams. Alan has no doubt that he has achieved the state's highest accomplishment, but now he needs to wait for the official decision from the commission. "I will have to wait a few weeks before all the paperwork is processed. In any case, this is the biggest yellow perch I have ever caught, and it is unforgettable," the fisherman bragged.

Yellow perch are found in the United States and Canada. On average, an adult weighs about 500 grams. The largest yellow perch ever recorded was caught in the Delaware River in 1865 and weighed 1.91 kilograms.
