Information has emerged that rapper Markul (Mark Markulis), a citizen of Latvia, received a Russian passport in February 2024. This was reported by the Telegram channel SHOT on February 22, 2026.

As SHOT found out, it took 32-year-old Latvian citizen Mark Markulis (real name) just two years to go from a public stance against Russia's war in Ukraine (February 2022) to obtaining a Russian passport (February 2024). However, now he risks losing his Latvian citizenship for this, writes nra.lv.

Immediately after the war began, Markul stated that there would never be anyone in his circle who could justify what was happening, and he flew to London. Nevertheless, this did not prevent him from continuing to earn money in Russia, and until August 2022, he released the song "Strela" together with Tosey Chaykina.

Mark spent some time in Europe, including Italy, but eventually returned to Moscow and began successfully performing concerts, filling arenas with thousands of people. In February 2024, the singer received Russian citizenship. However, by doing so, he violated the law of his native Latvia, where obtaining Russian citizenship as a second citizenship is prohibited. The penalty is the loss of Latvian citizenship.
