SpaceX founder Elon Musk announced a revision of the company's strategic priorities. While colonization of Mars was previously considered the main focus, attention is now centered on creating an autonomous city on the Moon.
According to the entrepreneur, the implementation of the lunar project could take less than ten years. He noted that building a settlement on Mars will require significantly more time — over two decades.
Musk explained the change in priorities due to logistical factors. Flights to Mars are only possible during certain astronomical windows that open approximately every 26 months, and the flight itself takes about six months. However, one can reach the Moon in just two days, with launch frequency potentially reaching several times a month.
At the same time, the head of SpaceX emphasized that the Martian direction is not being closed off. According to him, work in this direction could begin in five to seven years, but the top priority remains the accelerated creation of sustainable extraterrestrial infrastructure.
