Many believe that sleeping without clothes helps cope better with hot nights. However, British experts concluded that in some cases, light pajamas may be more beneficial for quality rest.
Debates about whether it is better to sleep in pajamas or without clothes have been ongoing for a long time. British specialists studied this issue and concluded that the choice affects not only comfort but also sleep quality, especially in hot weather.
The question of what to wear to bed — cozy pajamas, a light nightgown, or nothing at all — concerns not only personal preferences but also health. Experts analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of both options and found that there is no universal solution.
According to them, properly chosen sleepwear can contribute to a more comfortable rest. Pajamas made from natural fabrics — cotton, linen, or silk — absorb moisture and wick it away from the skin, which helps a person sweat less and cope better with warm nights.
Those who advocate sleeping without clothes also have a strong argument: this option helps the body regulate its temperature more effectively. Many believe that the absence of clothing allows for cooler conditions and faster falling asleep.
However, specialists note that in very high temperatures, this effect does not always work. When the bedroom is too hot, the skin can no longer effectively release heat, and natural thermoregulation mechanisms begin to fail.
Research shows that overheating during sleep makes it difficult to fall asleep and leads to more superficial and interrupted sleep.
Therefore, as experts claim, completely forgoing clothing does not always help one feel cooler. Moreover, in extreme heat, it can lead to the opposite effect.
"When a person sleeps without clothes, sweat remains on the skin and bedding. As a result, there is a feeling of stickiness and overheating, which can worsen sleep quality," specialists explain.
Experts believe that for most people, the optimal option remains light, loose clothing made from natural fabrics. It helps maintain a comfortable body temperature and manages moisture better. However, the decisive factor is not the presence of pajamas but a cool, well-ventilated bedroom and a comfortable microclimate during sleep.
