Doctor Felises: social media is associated with low life satisfaction.
Doctor Juan Manuel Felises stated that social media leads to subtle reprogramming of the brain. He made this warning in an interview with the publication Infosalus.
"Constant dopamine intake through social media leads us to abandon activities that bring us pleasure. They also reduce our inclination towards activities that are beneficial for health," Felises explained.
He emphasized that teenagers who spend more than five hours a day on social media experience depression three times more often than their peers who use social media moderately. As for adults, prolonged internet use is associated with lower life satisfaction. The fact is that with regular 'bombardments' of the brain with dopamine, sooner or later, mechanisms that inhibit this process are activated, Felises added.
