Narcologist Tatyana Klimenko spoke about the unobvious effects that alcohol has on the brain. The specialist noted that after consuming alcoholic beverages, the highest concentration of toxic substances accumulates in the brain. This has a destructive effect on neurons and causes devastating changes at the cellular level. Klimenko pointed out that if such intoxication becomes chronic, various parts of the brain are affected, higher nervous activity is disrupted, and mental health suffers.

A common consequence, the narcologist mentioned, is alcoholic encephalopathy. According to her, this is a degenerative disease characterized by the destruction and mass death of nerve cells. Additionally, against the background of alcohol intoxication, a deficiency of vitamin B1 may arise, which can provoke Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. Klimenko explained that this condition is accompanied by vision disturbances, confusion, unsteady gait, and, if left untreated, leads to death.

The doctor also noted that alcohol has many other side effects. According to her, regular consumption leads to insomnia, worsens depression, negatively affects appearance, and indirectly provokes weight gain.
