Bluefin tuna sold at auction in Tokyo for a record $3.2 million

On Monday morning, January 5, at the Toyosu fish market in Tokyo, a huge bluefin tuna caused a sensation by being sold for a record 510.3 million yen ($3.2 million) at the market's first auction of the year.

The winner of the bidding for the 243 kg fish was Kiyomura Corp, which operates the popular sushi restaurant chain Sushi Zanmai, with branches across the country and abroad.

"The first tuna caught this year brings good luck," said Kiyoshi Kimura, the company's president and a regular at the annual New Year's auction, according to Kyodo News.

Mr. Kimura, dubbed the "Tuna King," is known for offering sky-high prices for bluefin tuna at New Year's auctions.
