The Ukrainian government has expanded the list of states whose citizens can acquire Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified manner, according to a government resolution.
Previously, this list included Canada, Germany, Poland, the USA, and the Czech Republic.
Now it has been expanded to include: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Finland, France, Croatia, Switzerland, and Sweden.
Interestingly, Ukraine is not on the list of countries that Latvia permits for dual citizenship.
In Latvia, dual citizenship is officially allowed with the following countries and groups of countries:
– all countries of the European Union, as well as Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein;
– all NATO countries;
– additionally, Australia, Brazil, and New Zealand are also permitted.
Thus, a Latvian citizen who decides to become a citizen of Ukraine in a simplified manner will have to renounce their Latvian passport.
