It is safe for health to consume only one tablespoon of mayonnaise per day. This was stated by Nikolai Khomenets, a candidate of biological sciences and associate professor.

According to the expert, the daily norm of mayonnaise consumption is 20-30 grams, in any form: on sandwiches, in salads, or as a dressing for other dishes. Khomenets described mayonnaise as an ambiguously harmful product. He explained that only excessive consumption can be harmful.

"The main drawback of the product is its high calorie content, as well as the presence of many fatty acids that raise cholesterol levels in the blood," added the specialist. The product also contains a lot of sodium, which increases the risk of hypertension and heart problems.

The expert noted that ahead of the holidays, one should be more cautious with mayonnaise, otherwise, there will be digestive issues. "This can lead to at least heaviness and bloating, and an excess of calories and fats during the entire January holidays can result in weight gain and excessive strain on the heart," he explained.

Khomenets also reminded that a salad dressed with mayonnaise should not remain on the table for a long time. Bacteria that cause food infections can develop in it. "If you notice that the mayonnaise has turned gray, has separated, and the smell has become sour or rancid, then you should definitely discard such a dish," he warned.
