The characteristic of this year's harvest wine - meaty!

As every year, the young wine Beaujolais Nouveau 2025 has gone on sale! The festive tradition, which began 73 years ago, has become an occasion for celebrations in France and abroad. Restaurants and bars organize themed events dedicated to the release of this wine, which has become famous beyond France.

In Lyon, as per tradition, barrels of Beaujolais Nouveau were rolled through the streets of the city center from a moored barge to the town hall, where the region's winemakers pompously presented their wines. The celebration of young wine lasted into the night, despite the cold that suddenly swept over France.

The president of the trade association Inter-Beaujolais spoke about the challenges faced by grape growers this year and did not hesitate to praise Beaujolais: "This year's wine turned out to be very beautiful, quite meaty, very soft, with a very rounded taste, with very pure aromas, but in smaller quantities. This year, the production volume is very low."

375,000 hectoliters compared to 500,000 in previous years. This is due to adverse weather conditions: heavy rains in early June during flowering and subsequent abnormal heat in mid-summer.

Due to time zone differences, the Japanese usually taste Beaujolais Nouveau first. In Japan, this young wine has been well received. Its release is accompanied by festive events, and prices can reach crazy amounts.

In France, most events in honor of the new release of Beaujolais Nouveau take place in the region of its origin in Lyon and in Paris. Here it is sold for around 10 euros per bottle, while in restaurants the price can go up to 30 euros.
