"When antibiotics are used without consulting a doctor, a person may not only fail to recover from an infection but also face complications. Another danger of frequent uncontrolled use of these medications is that they stop being effective due to the development of bacterial resistance to their effects," the doctor warned.
Moreover, according to her, people without medical education often prescribe themselves inappropriate antibiotics - asking a doctor to prescribe them - or take them unnecessarily, which makes treatment ineffective. In this case, the intake of medications should be stopped, rather than completing the course. At the same time, it is important not to interrupt the course of properly prescribed antibiotics, as this may provoke a relapse of the disease.
In conclusion, the doctor added that the belief that antibiotic use should be combined with probiotics is not entirely correct. For most people during a standard course of these medications, adhering to a rational diet that includes fiber-rich foods will be sufficient.
