Even light physical activity improves well-being and boosts energy.
Even light physical activity can significantly boost energy and improve overall well-being by the next day. This conclusion was reached by researchers from the University of Texas at Arlington in collaboration with colleagues from Monash University (Australia). The results were published in the journal Psychology of Sport and Exercise (PSE).
The study involved more than 350 young people who wore activity trackers for a week. The scientists analyzed how sleep, physical activity, and time spent sitting affect mood and energy the following day. It turned out that even 30 minutes of light activity, such as walking, cleaning, or short movements around the house, significantly increased energy levels compared to a completely sedentary day.
Intensive workouts, on the other hand, had a less pronounced effect, while prolonged sitting worsened well-being. According to Professor Yue Liao, small shifts towards greater mobility can be a simple and accessible way to maintain mental and physical health. She emphasized that it is not necessary to engage in sports — just sitting a little less and moving a bit more can make a difference by the next day.
